Your camera or microphone isn’t working during Teams, Zoom, or other video meetings — other participants can’t see or hear you.
Symptoms
- Camera shows a black screen or “No camera found”.
- Others can’t hear your voice.
- “Allow access to camera/microphone” prompts appear.
- Error messages such as “Camera not detected”.
Solutions
Step 1: Check the meeting app’s permissions
For Microsoft Teams:- During a call, look for the camera and microphone icons in the toolbar.
- If they are crossed out, click to enable them.
- If prompted, click “Allow” to grant camera/microphone access.
- Press
Win + I→ Privacy & security → Camera (or Microphone). - Ensure “Camera access” (or “Microphone access”) is On.
- Under “Allow apps to access your camera”, find Teams/Zoom and toggle it on.
Step 2: Select the correct camera and microphone
In Microsoft Teams:- Click your profile picture → Settings → Devices.
- Under “Camera”, select the preferred device.
- Under “Microphone”, select the preferred device.
- If available, enable “Automatically select”.
- Test by clicking “Make a test call”.
- Click your profile picture → Settings.
- Go to Video and choose the camera.
- Go to Audio and choose the microphone.
- Test with “Test Speaker/Microphone”.
Step 3: Check hardware connections
External webcam or USB microphone:- Unplug and re‑plug the device.
- Try a different USB port (preferably on the back of the PC).
- Ensure the device is powered on.
- Open any physical privacy shutter.
- Remove stickers or covers that may block the camera.

- Ensure the room system is powered on.
Step 4: Restart the application
- Close the meeting app completely (use the task manager if necessary).
- Reopen the app and join the meeting again.
Step 5: Restart your computer
- Save any work.
- Press
Win + I→ Power → Restart. - After the restart, try the meeting again.
Step 6: Update camera/microphone drivers
- Press
Win + X→ Device Manager. - Expand Cameras or Audio inputs and outputs.
- Right‑click your device → Update driver.
- Select “Search automatically for updated driver software”.
- If an update is installed, restart the computer.

Step 7: Check other apps that might be using the camera
- Close any other applications that could be accessing the camera (e.g., webcam software, other video conferencing tools).
- Only one app can use the camera at a time.
Step 8: Verify company‑provided headsets

- Test the headset on another computer to confirm it works.
