Virtual memory is a space on your hard drive that Windows uses as if it were additional RAM. If this is managed poorly or restricted, you will see resource errors.

Step 1: Access Advanced System Settings

  1. Click the Start button and type View advanced system settings.
  2. Select the result to open the System Properties window.
  3. Ensure you are on the Advanced tab.
  4. Under the Performance section, click the Settings... button.

Step 2: Configure the Paging File

  1. In the Performance Options window, click the Advanced tab.
  2. Under the Virtual memory section, click the Change... button.
  3. Uncheck the box that says Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
  4. Select your C: drive (or the drive where Windows is installed).
